A 10-Month, Real-World Wall Test
One question we’ve been asked from time to time is whether ComicCapsule colors can transfer or stain walls when displayed long-term.
Instead of speculating, we decided to run a proper, long-term test under real display conditions.
To keep things transparent, we tried to replicate possible wall stain scenarios and let the test run its course fo 10 months.
Why We Ran This Test
Wall display is one of the most popular ways collectors use ComicCapsules. If there were any risk of color transfer or staining over time, we wanted to understand it clearly and share the results openly.
Rather than a short-term or lab-only test, we chose a long-duration, real-home environment approach.
Experiment Setup (How We Did the Test)
To ensure the test reflected real collector scenarios, we introduced multiple variables commonly found in home displays.
Wall & Paint Details
The test wall was located inside Eric’s home. The wall was painted using Sherwin-Williams paint. Two different finishes were used:
- Duration Home - Satin
- Emerald - Flat
Capsule Mounting Timeline
To account for paint curing time, multiple ComicCapsules were mounted at different intervals after the wall was painted:
1 capsule mounted 1 day after paint dried
1 capsule mounted 3 days after
1 capsule mounted 5 days after
1 capsule mounted 7 days after
1 capsule mounted 14 days after
This allowed us to observe whether paint curing time had any effect on potential staining or transfer.
Display Conditions
- Capsules were mounted using our standard wall-mount method.
- Each capsule remained in continuous contact with the wall
- No repositioning, cleaning, or adjustments were made during the test
- Capsules were left in place for approximately 10 months
The wall was exposed to normal indoor environmental conditions, including temperature and humidity fluctuations
The maximum temperature exposure during this period is shown and discussed directly in the experiment video below:
Results After 10 Months
After approximately 10 months, all ComicCapsules were removed from the wall and the surface was inspected.
Results:
- No wall staining observed
- No color transfer detected
- No discoloration on either paint finish
This applied to all capsules, regardless of whether they were mounted 1 day or 14 days after the paint had dried.
We also checked with team members and collectors who have had ComicCapsules displayed on their walls for nearly two years, and they’ve reported the same outcome.
What This Means for Collectors
Based on this long-term test and real-world usage:
- We have not observed color transfer from ComicCapsules to painted walls
- Long-term wall display has shown no staining under normal indoor conditions
- Paint finish type and curing time did not result in visible differences during this test
As with any wall-mounted display product, wall materials, paint types, and environmental factors can vary. We always recommend ensuring your wall surface is clean and fully dry before mounting.
Transparency First
We believe the best way to address concerns is through real testing, documentation, and sharing results openly.
Huge thanks to Eric for committing his wall to a 10-month experiment, and to our community for continuing to ask thoughtful questions that help us validate and improve our products.
